german ''e.b.m. / industrial'' legends ''funker vogt'' were formed by vocalist ''jens kästel'' & programmer ''gerrit thomas'', way back in 1995. other members of the band are keyboardist/manager ''björn
böttcher'', live guitarist ''frank schweigert'' & lyricist ''kai schmidt''. the name of the band translated from german to english is "radio operator vogt" (a surname of a friend of the band who was a military radio operator). the military concept of a radio operator provides a contrast with the musical roles of a d.j. or a vocalist using a microphone.
the group appeared on several german compilations &, in 1996, released their debut album ''thanks for nothing''. following the release of 5 e.p.'s/m.c.d.'s [''words of power'' (1996), ''take care!'' (1997), ''killing time again'' (1998), ''tragic hero'' (1998), & ''gunman'' (2000)], & one album (''execution tracks'', 1998), ''funker vogt'' signed with the american record label ''metropolis records''. ''metropolis'' re-released ''thanks for nothing'', followed by the ''we came to kill'', in late 1997. in 2000, ''funker vogt'' released ''maschine zeit'', followed by the remix e.p. ''t'', in early 2001. after, came the albums: ''survivor'' (2002), ''revivor'' (2003), ''navigator (2005), ''aviator (2007)'', ''warzone K17, live In berlin'' (2009), & ''blutzoll (2010). along came e.p.s'/m.c.d.'s: ''subspace (2001)'', ''code7477'' (2001), ''date of expiration'' (2002), ''red queen'' (2003), ''revivor (special d.j. edition)'' (2003), ''fallen hero'' (2005), ''killing ground'' (2006), ''club-pilot'' (2007), ''white trash (k17 live excerpt)'' (2008), ''arising hero'' (2010), & ''hard way'' (2012):
